Zhongzheng Hu European Villa is located near the eponymous Zhongzheng Lake, with views through the windows out toward the verdant Mt. Renzi. Owners Mr. Li Wenqin and Ms. Su Yingju created the villa’s lush garden themselves, and the villa is also home to wonderful walking paths and bridges. As the lights twinkle during the night, it is a truly intoxicating and romantic experience. Situated in the foothills of Mt. Renzi, the small Kaohsiung City township of Meinong is a traditionally Hakka town rich in culture, history, and the simplicity of the Hakka lifestyle. In the winter, it is home to fresh, tasty “white jade” radishes; in the summer, it is covered in rich greenery, which is best appreciated on a bicycle ride through the mountains with the southerly wind blowing through your hair. Ms. Su is also a professional tour guide and passionate volunteer eager to help visitors experience and appreciate the wonders of Meinong. She is a particular proponent of traditional gong- and suona-based Hakka music, and if you’re lucky she might even perform an improvised “welcoming song” for you as you arrive.
